Destination Summary

Lake Arenal

Tico Wind is a kitespot at Lake Arenal in the north of Costa Rica close to the Volcan Arenal. You can find strong and very reliable winds throughout the whole winter. The water is rather choppy but you can find persistent and predictable windwaves reaching overhead size without breaking at around 25 knts (strong winds push the whole lake into the narrow end of the lake exactly downwind of the official kite spot). On top of that you have beautiful remote scenery with jungle and volcano views, an uncrowded spot with very friendly local people, as well as a nice kite school (Tico Wind). Accessibility although is not easy and accommodations are rare. If you like combining big air kite surfing with an adventure, this is the place to be.
